Little by little, after we had our second child, my husband and
I started looking into detoxifying our lives. I did a lot of research and we
had lengthy discussions on how we wanted to try and implement this type of
lifestyle. One obstacle was, cost. It is definitely not cheap to try and
purchase products that are more Eco-friendly, clean and toxic free. The other
obstacle was that we wanted to make sure that our purchases were going to ethically
sourced companies. A little side note: If you are new here, this is one of my
passions and what I like to call, "shopping with intent." Alright,
let's continue on. We slowly began
and started first with changing over our cleaning products and then our food. It was not easy but was worth all the effort
we put into it. Three children, and a few moves later I knew I needed to start
in another area, my cosmetics.
Our skin soaks up everything that we put on it and it enters
into our body. Most cosmetics that are found at your local
drugstore contain harmful chemicals such as: carcinogens, pesticides,
reproductive toxins, and hormone disruptors. When we put on that favorite
(enter large name brand company here) foundation, our skin is soaking in all of
these toxins in. I do not know about you but just thinking about that gives me the
Now how does one source out both ethically made and toxin
free cosmetics? Well, friends of course (thanks Tara Teng!) and me! Today, I want to introduce you
to an amazing company that not only produces beautiful products but the faces
behind this company are even more beautiful in character. Isn't that the best,
and what we all want from a brand that we are putting our dollar behind?

I had the absolute privilege of being invited to their
launch party this past Saturday down at the Little Mountain Shop in Vancouver
and had a fellow blogger, Tamara from Discovering Parenthood
, come with me. Hello, checking out makeup is way better
with a friend, am I right?!
Their company is actually based out in Victoria on Vancouver
Island, BC and they were down here in Vancouver for a pop up shop. The space
that was created in Little Mountain Shop, was stunning. Designer, Azalea (okay, who loves this name as
much as I do?) captured the spirit, in my mind, of Elate perfectly. It was a
vintage atmosphere mixed with just the perfect amount of a soft, light and cozy
touch. Find her on Instagram
I had a great time educating myself more about each product
and getting a little tester done on myself. The artist, Ali was such a bright and
kind spirit that both Tamara and myself had no problems letting her do her
thang, as we felt at ease and confident in her knowledge as an artist and in the products. You can also find Ali on Instagram.
Their mission is one that I think everyone can get behind
100%, "At Elate Cosmetics, our
mission is to care for each other, our communities, and our world. Through
healthy ingredients, sustainable practices, and wellness minded goals, we
strive to build confidence through kindness, and allow you to create your own
standard of beauty."
Is that not such a beautiful mission?
Here are my top
favorite things about Elate Clean Cosmetics:
1.) All of the makeup is clean. No toxins here ladies. You
can feel at ease as you get ready for your day, that hot date night or a night
on the town.
2.) SPF 15
3.) Cruelty free. Not tested on animals
4.) Local company (you know how much I love local!)
5.) The packaging. Is it not beautiful? It is made from
bamboo for its sustainability.
6.) The first full day that I wore the foundation I felt
like I wasn't wearing anything at all. I kid you not. With my past foundations
I could not wait for the day to be over so I could wash my face. I may have
even slept with it on, may have. (Don't do as I do! Wash your face ladies) My
point, in that fact is that I would NEVER have done this with my other
7.) The lipsticks! I am a huge lipstick fan and vibrant
colors to boot. I fell in love with the pink that you can see me wearing in the
photos below. It is called, "Spirit." I know that this is going to be my go to color in the summer! The other great thing is that because it is mineral
based you can build with it. What does that mean? Well you can have it as a
light stain or build to be brighter and bolder.
*A tip I learned from Ali, apply
your first coat then blot and apply a second coat. This creates a stain like
effect so your lipstick will last longer.**
|Here I am wearing Elate foundation in "Fairest", Elate liquid eyeliner & Elate lipstick in "Spirit" and lastly Elate Little Love- Mini Universal creme on my cheeks.|
|Here I am wearing all the same as above but lipstick in "Tantric"|
I feel like I could go on and on about how much I love this
company! Instead, please go check them out over on their social media pages and give
them some love! You can find them on Facebook
